How to Download Your Tinder Messages
To download your Tinder messages, use Tinder’s Download My Information tool in Manage My Account. Tinder emails you a ZIP file within a few days, and its contents may include your messaging activity. If a particular conversation matters, save it before anyone unmatches: Tinder says unmatching is permanent and the chat leaves both match lists.
How to request your Tinder data
Tinder’s data download works for active accounts, and for banned or suspended ones too.
- Go to Tinder’s Manage My Account page and log in.
- Tap Download My Information.
- Enter the email address where you want the download link.
- Tap Submit.
Tinder says it emails the link within a few days. The email’s subject is “Your Tinder privacy request”, so check your spam folder if you don’t see it.

How to open the Tinder download
The download is a ZIP file you open on a computer or phone.
- Tap the link in Tinder’s email to save the ZIP.
- Extract the ZIP file.
- Open index.html to view your data in a browser. A JSON version for machines may be included too.
What the download includes
Tinder says the download may include:
- account and profile information, preferences and settings;
- photos and other media you uploaded;
- messaging activity;
- swipe and match activity;
- purchases and subscriptions, connected services, and usage and technical data.
Two limits from the same page. Data deleted under Tinder’s privacy policy isn’t included, and neither is information that could affect another person’s privacy or safety. A blank section means there’s no data in that category. Tinder also notes that much of this, including messages, is already available to you in the app.
So treat the download as your account’s record, not a guaranteed transcript of every conversation. If one chat is important, keep your own copy of it as well.
What happens to messages when you unmatch on Tinder?
The conversation disappears for both of you. Tinder says that when you unmatch someone, “they’ll disappear from your match list and you’ll disappear from theirs,” and that “unmatching is a permanent action” (Tinder Help: Unmatching someone).
A few related points from Tinder’s help center:
- You can’t delete single messages. The only way to remove a conversation is to unmatch (Tinder Help: Can I delete a message?).
- If a match vanished, the other person most likely ended the match or deleted their account (Tinder Help: Problems with Matches).
The other person can unmatch at any time, so if a conversation holds something you need, such as plans, a phone number or a message you might want to show someone later, save it while you can still see it.
Keep one Tinder chat as a readable file
Screenshots are the quick free way. For a longer chat, Exportly turns a screen recording or a set of screenshots into one document on your iPhone. Tinder is on its list of chat apps.
- In Exportly, add a chat, choose Tinder, then Record & scroll.
- Tap Start Screen Recording, confirm Start Broadcast, and Exportly opens Tinder.
- Open the conversation, start at the first message and scroll down slowly. Return to Exportly at the end.
- Add the match’s name in Chat with, check the preview, then export as PDF, Word, Text or another format and save it to Files.
The limits: it reads English and Turkish text only, it doesn’t bring in photos, and it can only read what was on your screen. It can’t bring back a chat that’s already gone after an unmatch. Tinder offers a privacy request form for this. Choose I have another question about my data, describe your request, give the email linked to your account and select Report. Tinder may ask you to verify your identity.
Can I recover messages from someone I unmatched?
Tinder describes unmatching as permanent. No app, Exportly included, can bring an unmatched conversation back.
Does Tinder tell the other person when I unmatch?
Tinder’s help page says they won’t be notified, though they may notice you’re gone from their matches.
